Raze Celebrates 20 years of Standing up Against the Tobacco Industry with a Virtual Summit
More than 450 middle and high school students from across the state will meet online for the Raze Virtual Youth Summit
West Virginia’s Raze program will host the 2021 Raze Youth Summit virtually from October 28 through November 19. The goal of the online event is to educate the state’s youth about the dangers of e-cigarettes and equip them with tools to tackle tobacco-related issues in their schools and communities.
“We are excited to be a part of this virtual event to continue the work against the tobacco industry. This year is extra special because it allows us to look back and reflect on how far we have come as an organization and what we have accomplished in the last 20 years” said Yuan Uy, a high school ambassador for Raze from Parkersburg High School.
This year’s virtual Summit includes a variety of speakers and educational activities designed to educate students on the dangers of e-cigarettes. From Marshall University, keynote speaker Dr. Brandon Henderson will discuss the dangers of vaping and the misconceptions associated with vaping. Additional sessions will work to educate and train students on what they can do to create the first tobacco- and nicotine-free generation.
“With e-cigarette use on the rise, groups like Raze are essential, said Uy. “Arming ourselves with the facts and breaking down the lies of big tobacco are key to combatting this epidemic among youth.”
