The Impact of Tobacco Usage on Daily Life

When starting out using tobacco, many people are under the impression that it will just be a harmless pastime. Tobacco is advertised as something fun to do when bored, and as something that can be moderated and stopped at any time. However, once under the grips of a nicotine addiction, it takes over your daily life and completely controls your actions. Tobacco companies do not advertise the ways that an addiction to using tobacco can affect every aspect of your life from financial drainage to the inability to play sports.

As a teenager, life revolves around friends, sports, and schoolwork. Each of those vital aspects are at risk when tobacco usage comes into play. On average, it takes from a few days to four weeks after starting smoking to develop a dependence on nicotine. Once a dependence on nicotine is developed, if the smoker does not receive nicotine then they could become irritable, depressed, and/or fatigued, along with many other symptoms. These symptoms easily cause an intense strain on social life as they affect how one interacts with others. Becoming irritable with a friend or family member simply because of nicotine withdrawals leads to difficult conversations and lost relationships. Additionally, the constant obsession over smoking distracts from schoolwork and could cause grades to plummet.

Additionally, smoking tobacco products attacks the lungs and the entire respiratory system. A system that is vital when playing sports. Once addicted to nicotine, the harmful chemicals inside of vapes and e-cigarettes cause inflammation of the lungs and block the airways. When the airways are blocked it will be increasingly difficult to breathe, especially during physical exertion, meaning that smoking directly affects the ability to perform well during sports. The usage of tobacco is overall harmful to your health and impacts every aspect of daily life. Therefore, it is best to stay away from tobacco products and stay educated about tobacco lies.
