Do you wonder...

Do you wonder about the latest celebrity gossip? The hottest songs? What happens to other people at their school? Well, I will try to write this at least once a month, usually more often. Well, of course you have heard of the Jonas Brothers. For those of you that haven't, the Jonas Brothers are a singing group of three brothers (Kevin, Joe, and Nick) who the girls think are all extremely cute. We all know that most girls LOVE them, but the question is: do boys like them? I actually want to know if boys like them or their music. If they don't -- why not? Also, some of the coolest songs I have heard that you should check out are: “Dangerous” by Akon; “Whatever You Like” by T.I.; “Disturbia” by Rihanna; “Live Your Life” by T.I. feat. Rihanna; “I Can't Believe It” by T-Pain feat. Lil’ Wayne and “Swing” by Savage. There will be more info later...

Okay, well here's my story.

In my family, everyone who has ever put a cigarette in their mouth has been affected by it somewhere along the line. I have never even met my grandfather because of the effects of smoking. This is one of the many reasons that I am fighting tobacco use.

Did you guys know that secondhand smoke alone kills nearly 3,000 nonsmokers each year? It's true. They breathe it in so much that they get lung cancer. Has your parent or older sibling that smokes ever told you not to? Well, they are poisoning you just as much as they are poisoning themselves.

The estimation for teens that smoke in the United States is 4.5 million, and every single day around 3,000 teenagers start smoking just in the United States alone. Teen smokers also get sick more often than teenagers who don’t smoke. They are also more likely to drink and use illegal drugs. Teenage girls who smoke are also 70% more likely to get breast cancer as adults.

Smoking-related illnesses claim more lives then alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide and illegal drugs combined. So tell me, guys -- do you really want to participate in something that is that dangerous to your body?

TEAR DOWN TOBACCO LIES

Some kids may think it’s cool to chew or smoke tobacco, but it’s not. It affects your body badly! It can put you in danger! What I want you guys to do, even if you aren't a smoker or a chewer, is join RAZE! Help us TEAR DOWN TOBACCO LIES! If you join RAZE you can earn points to buy cool shirts and more! You can also do commotions. Commotions are activities you can do with other teens or anyone else that is in RAZE!

You can help prevent tobacco use by hanging posters or banners in your school or nearby community. You can also perform skits in front of your community and do activities with small kids, teens, and adults. They even give out prizes! If you start teaching kids at a young age not to chew or smoke, it usually encourages them to avoid it when they are teens and adults!

Please just join RAZE. Trust me, it will change your mind FAST!!

Raze is different

At my high school far too many people walk around with a rub in their mouth. You can walk the halls and see spit tobacco in the water fountains and on the floors. The members of Raze at my school are doing everything in our power to change that. We put up posters, make announcements -- anything to get word out. We know the effects of tobacco, and we want to protect others. Telling people about the harmful effects of tobacco is a small price to pay compared to the medical costs of a chain smoker -- don't you think?

But Raze is different. We don't discriminate against tobacco users, we help them. We provide the information and then leave it up to them. It's their choice and we can't make them change their mind. But we can help them make the right decision. Several Raze members have tried tobacco -- some are former users. We accept them with open arms and are glad that they have made the choice to better their lives.

Raze is working hard to prevent tobacco use at my school. Tobacco use is the leading cause of death in the United States and it's PREVENTABLE!!!! If we work together to “tear down tobacco lies” then nothing can stop us. Help people understand that when they light up, they endanger other people. Help people understand that little kids watch them. Monkey see, monkey do. They see the older kids, or their parents do it, and the image is burned into their minds that it's a cool thing to do.

But we can change that.

Tobacco use is a cause of death in my family, and I stand strongly against it. To me, it's not acceptable. I don't want the effects of secondhand smoke ruining my life. That's my choice. I choose not to stand for tobacco. I choose, to “tear down tobacco lies.”

Why We Fight Big Tobacco

Raze is working hard to prevent tobacco use, because it's preventable!! Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.
